Herbal steams are a great self care practice to add to your ritual. This herbal steam is great to help with any discomfort in the upper respiratory tract due to a cold, flu, or allergies and help assist with your overall wellness. It contains several herbs, such as Thyme and Tea Tree that are helpful to support any stagnation that you might be feeling from theses ailments.

• Take 2 tablespoons of the herb mixture and place in a bowl big enough to hold 1 quart of boiling water. Cover the bowl of boiling water and herbs and let steep for 5 minutes. If necessary, pull hair back and place a towel over your head. Uncover bowl and place face at least 10 inches above water, drape towel over head and bowl. Rest for 5-8 minutes. If it is too hot wait for it to cool down about 1-2 minutes. If you need to move away from the water for a moment, it's ok. Afterwards you may strain the herbs out of the remaining water, for use as a body splash or toner. Repeat as desired.
Juniperus communis (Juniper berry) - Juniper berry contains a very potent antiviral compound, Deoxypodophyllotoxin, which help to boost your immune system and fight off infection. It also is a strong detoxifier and purifier to help rid the body of excess fluid and to stagnation. It helps to open the nasal cavity and lungs giving relief.
Thymus vulgaris (Thyme) - It comes from the Greek word Thymos, meaning strength. It opens up the lungs to help remove toxins and any stagnant fluid. The high amount of volatile oils makes it a strong detoxifier that opens the pores and move fluid through the tissues. It is a strong support with shortness of breath, and post nasal drip. Being a relaxant it helps with pain, especially associated with headaches. The great English herbalist, Nicholas Culpeper, referred to Thyme as, "A strengthener of the lungs."
Eucalyptus globules (Eucalyptus) - Virus killing natural chemical compounds Hyperoside, Quercitrin, and Tannic acids are prevalent in Eucalyptus. It opens up stagnation in the nose and lungs and is a great expectorant and stimulant. With it's antiseptic properties it is great for any aliments in the upper respiratory tract. It is known to be a plant that helps support Vishuddha, or throat chakra.
